Don't just build better...build stronger. If we can consider the idea that our relationships are not just for enjoyment and pleasure, but also for mutual support during the easy and challenging moments, we can expand our appreciation of our partner and their presence in our life. Think of your relationship as a journey: Some moments of complete harmony, other hopefully fleeting moments of disharmony, and a lot of somewhere in between right?

This flux is unavoidable! Not only are we living in connection to another important human being (with their own unique needs, emotions, thoughts, etc.), but also encountering life and all of it's uncertainty.

My research has generated six characteristics of relational communication that contribute to our ability to not only appreciate the positive features of relationships, but importantly do so with the expectation that this communication will be helpful when times are tough as well. Over the next 6 weeks I'll post a new area for us to explore.
